Proper
Wig Care
Caring for
Your New Hair Piece is Easy! The proper care of your
hair replacement or extension will keep it looking like new.
Most find it is best to have more than one hair replacement, not
only to alternate hair styles, but to allow the proper time for
cleaning, drying and longevity.
| Frequency
of washing |
|
Wash
normally every 30 to 40 hours of wear. After chemo, wash
once a day for 4 days, then wash every 30 to 40 hours of
wear. |
| |
|
|
| Prior
to washing |
|
Gently
brush out all tangles and hair spray build-up. Do not
use a wire brush or comb at any time, as a hair piece is
only as good as its base. |
| |
|
|
| Shampooing |
|
Use
shampoo especially formulated to clean hair pieces as
recommended by your wig maker. In a sink or basin, mix
two capfuls of shampoo with cold water only, and immerse
hairpiece; soak 3-5 minutes. Agitate gently. |
| |
|
|
| Rinsing |
|
After
shampooing rinse clean, wrap in towel and blot to
eliminate excess moisture. Do NOT wring out. Apply
conditioner and shake. CAUTION: the conditioner contains
ingredients that are slippery - avoid contact with
floors or tubs! |
| |
|
|
| Drying |
|
Wigs
take about 4 to 6 hours to dry. Allow you hair piece to
dry on a wig stand. Do NOT brush or comb until
completely dry. When dry, use a hair brush. |
| |
|
|
| Blow
drying |
|
To
prevent fibre damage do NOT use a dryer, curling iron,
or any other drying aid. Keep all hair pieces away from
sources of heat or open flame, (eg. stoves, ovens). |
| |
|
|
| Sleeping |
|
Avoid
sleeping or resting on a pillow while wearing your
hairpiece, as heat generated between pillow and head
exceed the melting point (130F) of the hair piece,
causing damage. Instead, use a proper bonnet or cap to
prevent chilling. |
Do
not cook while wearing your wig!
