 The
Christmas Spirit came early this year to the doorstep of
my business,
Josef's Hair Care.
Yesterday, a dear lady and her daughter visited me. She
was ill, about to lose her hair and striving for a way
to look her best for Christmas. After her purchase,
"Mary-Louise" was a very happy lady, giving me her
heartfelt thanks and remarking that she "would soon
enjoy a good Christmas." At exactly that moment, we were
graced with the appearance of...Santa, or rather a man
dressed up as Santa. He had dropped into my salon! He
was perfectly costumed as Santa and instantly sensed
what was happening. I winked at him, nodding towards
the wig on my desk. I then introduced my client, saying
that "Mary-Louise" was temporarily ill. Santa held out
both of his hands to shake her one sore and swollen hand
ever so gently. He said that from "now to the end of
2009" his good thoughts would be with her.
Well, after Santa left all three of us hugged with
delight and gave thanks for this unexpected and instant
Christmas.

Dear Josef:
I first heard about your
excellent services several years ago, but it was not
until my Mother was afflicted with the “fashionable
illness as we call it in Rome” that we required your
assistance in choosing a wig which would make her look
as beautiful as she has always looked. You selected one
which was the exact style, colour, and most important of
all, you took the time to brief a very frightened woman
so she would be more comfortable with the procedures she
would be enduring in her next passage through cancer.
She enjoyed the camaraderie and it turned out to be a
very fun session for her. When I came home from my
mission, I saw the wig on her and thought "I want to
give her some solidarity and complicity to lighten up
her personal trauma and help her dismantle some of her
stigmas", so I decided to purchase one for myself when
going shopping with her. You gave me an appointment on
very short notice, and we too had a fun session in the
presence of my mother. I started wearing this lovely wig
to work on rainy days and everyone said my hair was so
beautiful, so I didn’t give away my secret. I studied
your web page and was mesmerized by all the styles and
colours available and decided that wigs were not only
convenient for movie stars or those afflicted by
illness, but even someone like me. This way I could
continue to give my mother the complicity from afar and
enjoy the benefits of always being well-groomed. I have
since purchased two more wigs to use in different
seasons. At this moment, I just want to take the
opportunity to thank you for your professionalism,
dedication, discretion and kindness, you are a true
humanitarian and gentleman. Thank you for dedicating
your life time work to making us feel better about
ourselves.

For a few
years you have looked after my hair, but when you took me
in, on a holiday weekend, to repair the ravages of a stay
in hospital, you set me on the road to recovery. More
recently, with the onset of hair loss, you have taken care
of everything ( a wig).You had made it so easy. Then you
helped with a problem that was not even hair related and

There are
landmarks and places of interest to see on any journey. They
are remembered and celebrated as memories of the journey
taken. Last Saturday was on of those landmarks for me. And
you were most instrumental in the creation of that landmark.
When I first began my medical journey, choosing a wig was
one of those significant events that I was not looking
forward to. Your knowledge and expertise turned the whole
event into a glamorous makeover session. Your acceptance of
my friends who accompanied me made the day much more
memorable. Thank you for turning what could have been a

my little "wiggy" last December ... it was much
appreciated. I have worn it frequently, and have had many
compliments. May I take you up on your offer to cut a bit

You're wished a Happy Easter, Josef, especially the special kind

fitting for a wig, that makes me feel whole and acceptable to face
the world.I did not realize that chemotherapy can cause a loss of

After spending thousands of dollars on hairpieces from various
so-called wig and hairpiece specialists, it took, just 50 or so
miles away from Toronto to go to Guelph for you to fit me
properly. Even
though my head looks, and feels like a gourd from so much surgery,
you fit me with a 'mushy cast' that really caused me to have a
perfect fit, rather than plastic wrap used by the others.
My doctor was amazed that you
had even used a U.V. inhibitor material to protect my cancerous
scalp. I am enclosing his name and address. He has requested a pad
of your pamphlets to be mailed to him. Also
enclosed is my cheque for the price of the hairpiece. I really
appreciated the insurance of a free trial for six months with
satisfaction guaranteed. But, of course, after only three weeks, I
am so pleased. I had felt so violated by so many dishonest people
out there who could help me. I would like to order one more
hairpiece and will await your call when it is ready. Thanks again.

Dear Mr. Josef,
A few weeks ago, I had
accompanied Pat ____ . Not only did you totally remove her anxiety
from being told that she will lose her hair immediately after her
first I.V. chemo injection, you gave her a few thoughts that you
had picked up from so many years of training and helping so many
people with anomalies, that she was so relaxed and felt good
because she need not purchase immediately. Instead she should
leave a deposit and then have the privilege to phone at anytime
should she need the wig (sorry, Josef, it IS a hair replacement)!
I know they will write you a note of thanks, should Pat may/may
not need the replacement, however I wanted to let you know how you
are appreciated, and to let you know the importance of that
special work you do!
